NEW TESTAMENT PLAN OF SALVATION
Jesus proclaimed in Luke 24:46-49, “…thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that (1) repentance and (2) remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, (3) I send the promise of my Father upon you…”
Peter preached in Acts 2:38-39, “Then Peter said unto them, (1) Repent, and (2) be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and (3) ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
STEP ONE: REPENTANCE
Jesus died and so must we through repentance. Be sorry for your sins, recognize your need of the Savior, believing that Jesus Christ is our Savior. Determine to turn from sin and give your life completely to Him. (Acts 3:19a Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,...). Determine to turn from sin and give your life completely to Him. This should not be confused with salvation itself. As we discussed above, this is step one. Believing that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior is necessary, repentance from our sins and confessing our need for a savior leads us to the other steps. See Acts 8:12-17 and Acts 11:14-18.
STEP TWO: BAPTISM
Jesus was buried and so must we through baptism. We must be baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ. We must be buried with Him by total immersion in water. Have the saving name of Jesus Christ pronounced over you as was demonstrated in the book of Acts. We must obtain remission of sins in baptism through obedience and faith in His name.
Examples of being baptized in Jesus Name: (Acts 2:38; Acts 8:16; Acts 10:48; Acts 19:5; Colossians 3:17)
The Bible reveals no other name, title, or mode of baptism except that of full immersion in water in the Name of Jesus Christ.
STEP THREE: HOLY GHOST
Jesus rose and so must we through receiving the Holy Ghost. We must receive the Gift or Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking tongues. Believe God has promised it and that you can receive it as in Acts 2:4 ... "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Please note that tongues is the initial evidence of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Mark 16:17; Acts 2:4; Acts 8:17-18; Acts 10:44-46; Acts 19:6; 1 Corinthians 14:18)
The New Testament plan of salvation is God’s design for every believer: (1)repentance from sin, (2) baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and (3) receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. This is the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ applied to our lives. It is the message first preached in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost, and it remains the message for “you, and your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call” (Acts 2:39).
